Terminal Leave

What’s it for?

When your Service career comes to an end, it can take time to adjust to civilian life. This benefit is designed to make the transition easier by giving you paid time off at the end of your service.

What do I get?

As a Regular, you will be granted 20 working days of Terminal Leave on completion of your commission or engagement. If you are leaving prematurely (for example, for pregnancy or compassionate reasons), your Terminal Leave will be granted at your Commanding Officer’s discretion.

If your Regular service is terminated prematurely by the Service, you will be granted one day of Terminal Leave for each complete month of your service up to a maximum of 20 working days. You are only entitled to this if you have completed a minimum of six months’ service. 

Terminal Leave is not normally to be granted to Regular Service people whose service is terminated prematurely for misconduct.

If you are serving on an Full Time Reserve Service commitment, you will be awarded one day of Terminal Leave for each calendar month worked up to a maximum of ten working days.

If you are serving on an Additional Duties commitment, you will be awarded one day of Terminal Leave for every 21 days worked up to a maximum of seven working days.
