Volunteering Leave

Benefit from up to six days' Special Paid Leave (SPL) to take part in voluntary activities and make a difference

Who is it for?

All civilian staff, including DE&S, except:

  • Locally Engaged Civilians

  • Fee Earners and Contractors

  • QVS Peripatetic Teachers

What do I get?

As a MOD employee, you can benefit from up to 6 days' Special Paid Leave (SPL) for volunteering, which allows you to give something back and gives you the opportunity to make a real difference in peoples' lives.

Volunteering can also help support the development of many elements of the Success Profiles framework; it is a great way to gain knowledge, skills and behaviours that can be used to develop your career.

There is no limitation as to how to split your volunteering time: you may do six one-off days, cumulate this, or do an hour weekly for the year. The MOD Special Leave Policy contains further guidance.

Some TLBs may have additional local policy or guidance on the process for applying for time off for volunteering - please check if this applies in your area.
